Unlike many other gemstones, amber is organic, rather than mineral, in nature. Formed from the viscous, sticky resin of ancient pine trees it undergoes the hardening process of polymerization which fossilizes the resin over many centuries, making it hard. Due to the nature of the resin foreign material, such as insects and plants, is often caught in the resin during the fossilization process forming interesting inclusions. Amber with well-preserved organisms is often highly prized.

Likely due to its natural golden color, amber is said to carry a ‘sunny’ energy and it is used to eliminate negative energy.
Positive outlooks and sunny dispositions are enhanced by wearing amber stones and they are believed to cheer up those who wear them. Amber is also believed to draw sickness away from the body and eliminate negativity from emotional energy.
Powers attributed to amber include love, strength, luck, healing, and protection.
Legend says that amber was believed to provide magicians and sorcerers with special enhanced powers.
Amber is associated with the second (sacral) chakra. While ideal for cleansing and reactivating all the chakras, it is particularly effective with the sacral and solar plexus chakras.
